Psalm 74
This Psalm was composed as a prayer after the desecration and destruction of the Temple – the Gathering Place of God’s People for worship and prayer. As I meditate on this Psalm, it leads me to pray for the protection and blessing of the Church I am part of today. I invite you to use it as the basis to pray for your local Church too.
Almighty God and Father,
I pray for Your People, the Church,
and specially for Walmer Methodist Church
[Insert your church’s name here]
Despite our weaknesses, failings and sin,
please never give up on us,
but always remember us with love;
remember the price You paid to set us free
and to make us Your very own.
Out of Your great love for us –
Bless us with Your Presence.
Deliver us from the enemy of our souls and from his evil schemes.
Come to our defence and save us from every danger and threat.
Preserve the sacred place where we gather to worship and pray.
Show us Your beauty here, show us Your glory,
and stir our hearts with passion for Your Name!
You, Lord, are our Eternal King,
our Creator and our Father,
our Saviour and Sustainer.
You have always been faithful
to deliver us from every danger,
to provide for all our needs,
and to protect us from lasting harm.
So, when we are vulnerable, weak, or even persecuted –
Remember us, O Lord
Remember Your Covenant with us!
Defend Your cause, and save Your beloved again!
Amen.
