Psalm 139

LORD,
You know me inside out,
my every thought, my every word,
my resting and my doing.
You know me deeper
than I know myself,
than I could ever comprehend.

LORD,
You are everywhere I go –
Behind me and before me,
Above me and below,
to left and right, to east and west,
in heaven and on earth,
in darkness and in light,
in death and life,
You dwell
with me
and I am always, always safe!

LORD,
You are my Creator.
You fashioned and You formed
my inner life,
my body too,
before I breathed,
before I knew.
This wondrous life is Your great gift
of grace
so undeserved.
I stand in grateful awe.

And now, I must confess, my LORD,
my God who knows my thoughts,
I long to see You right this world
to ride it of all sin,
all wicked, hateful
rebel hearts
and bring Your glory in.
But all that I can pray today
is, ‘Start the work in me.
See me, know me,
test and cleanse me,
lead me in Your way.
Start Your wondrous cleansing, Lord,
and start the work in me.’
